Harris HMC won the contract to refurbish Vision Australia’s Kooyong head office – a complex and staged project where the design required an intricate understanding of sensory design and innovation. With a workforce made up of 240 visually impaired employees, the design took into consideration contrasting materials used on ceilings, walls and floors, contrasting colours, lighting levels, curved detailing and wayfinding solutions.
With the existing facility spread out over three separate buildings including an old and redundant petrol station, the project was state-of-the-art in terms of accessibility features for visually impaired people both as employees and clients to Vision Australia.
Harris HMC collaborated effectively with Vision Australia, Hot Black (designers) and all major stakeholders to deliver the project in two stages within a live operating environment. This detailed scope of works included:
- A total refurbishment over two levels including 6500m2 of office space and 2000m2 of basement
- A full upgrade of mechanical and electrical systems
