As the endangered Guthega Skink’s natural habitat is an alpine environment, a special facility to mimic this environment was built to ensure temperature variances of no greater than one degree. The new amenity also lets in natural light (sun) to the animal enclosures to support the skink’s biological needs. The project includes safe and efficient associated work areas for zoo staff and dedicated enclosures to assist in isolation of species and quarantining of unwell animals.
