La Trobe University was seeking to reconfigure the ground floor entry area to the Borchardt Library at the Bundoora campus. The main entrance was relocated to a central location to create two major new spaces in the library – an area for ASK – the university’s principal on-campus venue for student help and support, and a new student breakout area beside the Writer’s Block Café.

Live environment delivery specialists, Harris HMC was contracted to upgrade the entrance to improve poor spatial planning, reduce significant congestion in people flow and develop wayfinding issues. The scope of works included:

  • Stripping out the existing fitout
  • Relocation of entrance sliding doors
  • Installation of high-end joinery units including banquette seating, blade walls, help desks and feature bulkheads
  • Installation of special order carpet and vinyl flooring
  • Modification of the steel façade to suit the new entrance
  • Upgrade existing lighting to LED
  • Installation of new feature acoustic panels
  • Installation of a large television wall comprising 9 LCDs
