Our Publicity Works office fit-out wins BPN Sustainability Award!!
We're thrilled to announce our office fit-out for Marketing and Communications boutique, Publicity Works, won the 2013 BPN Sustainability Award for Best Office Fit-Out!
Congratulations to Publicity Works for commissioning such a striking sustainable design, to Zen Architects for designing it, and to our team for bringing it to life!
The project re-worked an existing two-storey building to create a highly sustainable space for our client.
The crowning glory of the fit-out is the energy-efficient motorised shutters that “follow the sun” providing shade in summer and maximum light in winter thereby reducing air conditioning costs.
What the BPN Sustainability Award judges had to say:
"This project has re-established the definition of an ‘office fitout’, transforming a B-grade middle-ring suburban building – the kind of buildings that the majority of Australian office spaces occupy – into a great workplace.
This extends the scope of work to include the various opportunities that these existing, smaller-scale buildings afford, such as upgrading the whole building, including the building envelope.
The lightness of touch to this project furthermore preserves raw and exposed existing fabric, so that the cost of churn and change in the future can be reduced and sustainably managed.
As a whole, Carlton Graphic Design Studios sets a good example for many existing office buildings."
Some words from our client:
"Harris HMC were fully engaged and took ownership along with me of the project from day one…they took not just the vision but also the budget to heart and were excellent at coming up with solutions that were both aesthetically and financially successful. Their sourcing of the external louvre product was brilliant…always working very closely with me to share and achieve the vision.” Ross Goodman - General Manager

When Arthur Kennedy joined Stan Harris in business in 1983, the Harris HMC heritage was already two years old. It was a small enterprise with a big commitment to providing Melbourne maintenance and fitout clients with excellent service delivery. Arthur and Stan shared a vision for their company and set about achieving it, working hard and smart to grow their reputation and their portfolio of successful projects. The values of customer service, dedication and ownership were an important framework for that growth.
Harris Office Environments (now known as Harris HMC Interiors) commenced in 1986 and in 1988 Arthur and Stan added an Electrics division. In 1990 they secured a landmark $9 million project for BHP. Successful completion proved the business capability and saw it emerge as a one of Melbourneâs leading fit out contractors.
After Stan retired in 1992, Arthur continued to evolve the business, accommodating the expanding Harris HMC team in larger North Melbourne premises and incorporating a Construction division. Arthur and his management team led a steady and mindful expansion program, building a strong internal culture and investing in a solid financial base.
Today, Harris HMC continues to evolve, now under the leadership of Arthurâs son, Dale Kennedy, and a committed board of management. The Harris HMC group delivers in excess of $85 million in projects per annum and is represented by 90 staff.
Those same values that inspired Arthur and Stan almost three decades ago remain embedded in the culture and the work practices of Harris HMC: customer satisfaction, dedication, teamwork, learning, safety and ownership.
The steadiness of family tradition is balanced by the reality of competitive project delivery in a contemporary marketplace, creating strength and confidence for Harris HMC, its people and, most importantly, its clients.
